FOUR FOR FRIDAY 10: HEALTH
“Strike while the iron is hot.”
-English Proverb
Aubrey Marcus is someone I’ve closely followed for a long time. I first discovered him through his supplement brand ONNIT (which he has since sold). This led me to listen to his podcast, read his book “Own the Day, Own Your Life”, and stay updated on his newsletters. To me, Aubrey embodies a fully FOURM’ed individual—relationally, spiritually, physically, and mentally. I often look to him for insights on living well as a man in this world. Check him out—you won’t regret it.
2. Ryan Hall
Piggybacking on my previous comment, there’s another remarkable individual named Ryan Hall. If you haven’t heard of Ryan, I highly encourage you to look into him. Ryan Hall, a former record holder in the half and full marathon, retired from competitive running after representing the USA in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Ryan is also deeply rooted in faith, a topic he frequently discusses and which is reflected in his book “Run the Mile You’re In”. I strongly recommend checking him out as he exemplifies balanced living—integrating work with fun, spirituality, and the dedication to compete fiercely while also finding moments of solace. He is a true leader among men.
3. WOD- Workout of the day
One of my recent favorite workouts is combining hiking with trail running downhill. Have you tried this lately? Begin with an easy to moderate hike. Once you reach the summit, I encourage you to SAFELY increase your speed on the descent. I’ve been finding a lot of enjoyment in this routine recently. Hiking allows me to meditate and achieve steady-state cardio, while descending challenges my workout and proprioception. As adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins flood your system, I can almost guarantee you’ll come off that mountain smiling and feeling more alive than when you started. It’s been a fantastic addition to my summer cross-training regimen. If you’re in the Denver Boulder area, some of my favorite trails include the Anemone Loop in Boulder, Green Mountain in Lakewood, and the Apex Loop in Golden, CO.
4. Vitamin D
One supplement that has truly benefited me is Vitamin D. I’ve been combining it with Vitamin C, exercise, and daily greens, and I genuinely feel a boost in my mood and overall well-being. Here are some key points about Vitamin D:
Coined the “sunshine vitamin”, as it is primarily obtained from sunlight. I often think of it as my “pill of sunshine”. When I take it, I feel like I’ve been outdoors hiking and basking under the sunny skies of CO—something I think we all could a little more of.
Other notes of Vitamin D:
It’s globally deficient, particularly in regions with limited sunlight.
Possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which may combat mood disorders like depression linked to chronic inflammation.
